OUR love is inwrought in our enthusiasm as electricity is inwrought in air, exalting its power by a subtle presence. A gentleman named George Wood pleaded guilty the other day to a charge of stealing a carpenter's two foot rule. He was sentenced to 24 hours' imprisonment with hard labor. The Magistrates ,who- inflicted the punishment have evidently some idea of sarcasm, as they appear to have ruled Wood's punishment "according' to the' length of the article stolen, and awarded him one hour for every mcli.
