OKAIN'S DISTRICT ROAD BOARD.

The Court for hearing objections to the Assessment Roll for this district was held in the Library, Okains' Bay, yesterday, before Mr Aylmer, judge. Mr D. Wright, Clerk to the Board and valuer, appeared in support of tbe valuation.

Mr Bennett, Little Akaloa, had his acreage adjusted.

Mr J. Hunter, Little Akaloa, applied to have a section which he rents from Mr Wagborn charged to that gentleman. There was no appearance of Mr Wag horn, and the roll was amended in terms Mr Hunter's request.

Mr J. Dalglish appeared, and objected that the roll now before the Court had not been prepared in terms of Section 6 of " The Rating Act, 1876," inasmuch as on February 15th'last the roll a« on view at tho school house, Le Ron's Bay, had not been signed as required by the second schedule of the Act. Mr Dalglish gave this evidence on oath.

The valuer stated that the document exhibited at Le Bon's was only a copy of that part of the roll that referred to Le Bon's sub-division of the district, and did

not require signature, Mr Ddglisb further objected that the entries in the roll wore not numbered, aa required by the Act

Tiie judge numbered the roll during the siting of tbe Court, and stated, with regard to Mr Dalglish's other objections, that tbe evidence was not clear as to the dates when tho roll was signed, and as the quashing of the roll would be a large expense to the district, he would on this occasion sign it, but warned the Clerk to be more careful in following the strict letter of tho Act, and thus avoid such objections in future. Tiie Court then abjourned.
