OKAIN'S DISTRI CT ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, Fed. 26, 1880. A meeting of this Board was held on the above date nt the Libraiy, Okaiu'a Bay. Present—Messrs Moore (in the chair), Barker, and Oldridge. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and conlhme 1. COCrGSPON'nENrjB. A letter was read from Mr J. Ollivie i Provincial Distiict Auditor, stating that ho would he in Akaroa on March 10 and 11, for the purpose of auditing the Board's accounts. A tender was received from Mr J. Itec ci offfiing to collect the dues of the Lo Bon's Bay jetty for a commission of 50 per cent, on the amount co lected. The offer was accepted. LE BOlv's POUJD. A letter was read from the County Coun. cil, asking the Board to pat this pound into a sufficient state of repair to receive stock. Mr Oldridge reported that the necessary repairs had been effected, and it was resolved to have the now board erected forthwith. MISCELLANEOUS. 3 Mr Oldridge was authorised to expend one or two days' labor on the bridge in Le Bon's. Mr Oldridge thought it was a great pity that the new road out of Le Bon's shou'd be rendered useless for the want of a little money being spent at the bottom, lie would suggest that the County Council be asked for £25 for the purpose of opening up tliie road. The Chairman considered that the main roads required attention. If the drains were not cleared out before the winter came on they would be stopped for traffic. Mr Barker concurred. ££££ Finally it was agieed to ask the Counci' for £103, to be expended on clearing out culverts and drains in the main road, and opening up the new road out of Le Bon's Bay. ROAD IN MTTLE OKAIN's. Mr James waited on the Board to ask them to do something with regard to thi s road. At present people were trespassing on his land lo get through. Mr Oldridge did not see what the Board could do in the matter. If people tree, passed on Mr Jamos' land he had his remedy. The Chairman considered that aa thero were only three members present they would scarcely be willing , to deal with the matter. It was suggested that Mr James should agree tv an exchange of road for road, and a motion to this effect was proposed by Mr Ol'lridge. Finally it was agreed that the Chairman and Clerk should go over the ground with Mr James, and the latter should point out where he wisliud the road to go. The understanding on the part of the Board was that they would give land for land as compensation.
