AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

February 12th, 1881

A meeting of this Board was held on the above date at their offices, Duvauchelle's Bay. Present:—Messrs Chappell fin the chair), McDonald, Piper and Shadbolt. _

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

INTERVIEWS.

Mr McKay waited upon the Board, asking for some remuneration for the use of right of-way through hie property leading to Rhodes' Flat.

After some conversation, Mr McKay said he would be satisfied with the remission of his rates for 1879.

The proposal was agreed to, the rates to be first paid. Mr C. Bates came to ask for a road, as the surveyor had given him two acres for road purposes. Hβ was willing to do the work and wait for the money until the Board was in funds.

The Clerk was ordered to visit and report on the matter.

CORRESPONDENCE,

Letters were read :—

From Messrs Duncan and Cotterill, asking if they were to act for the Board in the matter of " Breitmeyor to the Board."

The Board resolved to, write to Mr Nalder to get the matter completed.

From Messrs O'Sullivan and Co., asking grace in the matter of carrying out their contract on the roads until the dry weather was over.

The Board considered that the contractors had had more than sufficient indulgence, and should be called upon to fulfil the terms of the specifications.

From Mr A. Simpson,.Christchurcli, enclosing samples of stationery and soliciting an order.

The Board did not require any of the articles enumerated.

TENDERS.

The following tenders for the erection of a pound were then opened and considered : —E. Haines, 2 months, £35 ; Jno. Wardle, £52 13s ; T. S. Johnson, £5.-J 10s; J. Bassett, 6 weeks. £44 15s ; L. P. John son, 2 months, £42 10s ; W. Jones, 7 weeks, £40.

After considerable conversational discussion, it was resolved that W. Jones' tender be accepted.

PAYMENTS.

The following , accounts were passed for payment:—S. Hunt, instalment on bridge, £20 ; J. Uarwick, £10 8s Bd.

The Board then adjourned till Saturday, March 12.
