THE LATE MR D. M. CURRIE.

[We have been requested by the writer to insert tho following letter, which appeared in yesterday's Lyttelton Times. — Ed. A.M.]

7b the Editor

Sir, —I cannot allow my brother's memory to remain under the stigma which at present rests upon it. With your pi-emission, I will lay some additional particulars before the public.

It has been said that Mr Wright handed him over to the caro of tho police, as he was suffering from delirium tremens, and required to be tinder.restraint. I deny that jiho: was suffering: iron) 'delirium tremens, or that he required restraint. Tho reaj ; fact is that. he was .in .ill health from natural causes, and required nursing, not restraint. As Mr Wiggins, my brother's employer, had become responsible for tho necessary cost, I am at a loss to understand how Mr Wright came to call in the aid ol the police. Had my brother not been disturbed in the'manner in which he was . Ills memory would not-havo been aspersed as it has been. '. In concliiHion,.l must express my grateful thanks to the police for the. thoughtful caro and kindness they bestowed upon my brother throughout the short time ho was in their hands.—l am etc.,

A. CURRIE,
