School Committee.

PIGEON BAY,

The annual statutory meeting of householders to elect a new School Committee took place in the schoolroom oil the '24th ult. On the motion of Mr Firmston, seconded by Mr Priest, Mr Pitcaithly (the Chairman of the retiring Cwmniittce) took the chair.

It appeared from the report that the schools were in a satisfactory state! Befoie closing them for tLe holidays they were examined by the Rev Mr Douglas (and Mesdames May and Gil espie for sewing, etc). and prizes were awarded, as well as presents of books given to those who did not get prizes. The Committee hid been enabled to provide these through the liberality of Miss Marshall, Messrs Montgomery, M. _l.it., Piper, and J. and It. Hay. A treat of tea and cake was provided for the children of both schools at the close of the examination of the main school, furnished from private funds in the hands of the Committee. The balance sheet showed the income of the Committee for the year to have been £306 14s lOi-d, of which £4 13s 2£d remains to their credit,
