AUSTRALIANS V. CANTERBURY

P/ay was resumed at 12.15 to-day. The Australians concluded their first innings. Slight, who went in received a severe blow on the head from a ball bowled by W. Frith. He had to retire, bat resumed his bat at the conclusion together with Tobin, and

held the wickets for hours, the former being eventually caught out by C. Frith. The game is concluded.

Total score—323. Murdoch, c, 111 ; T. Groube, c, 42 ; Slight, c, 38 ; Blackman, c, 38 ; Boyle, c, 32. The fielding of the Christchurch team was very good. Number of spectators was estimated at not less than 10,000.
