London, Jan. 21.

News has been received from South America that the Chilians have occupied the Peruvian capital, Lima. On Monday last two sanguinary battles were fought between tlw two forces, and it is said that 7,000 Peruvians were killed. The Chilian loss is not stated ; owing to the defeat of his troops, and the occupation of his capital, Pierola, the President of Peru, has fled.

The race between H mlan and Laycock again cannot be rowed to-day as arranged, as the Thames is still covered with large masses of floating ice, and traffic on the river is almost entirely suspended.

News has been received from South America that the Chilians have followed up the success over the Peruvians at Lima by marching on and occupying Callao. The capture of the town was made almost without opposition.

It has now been arranged that the sculling race between Hanlan and L.iycock shall take place on Feb. li.
