The trial of the Land Leaguers at Dublin is still proceeding. The case for the prosecution has closed, and the addresses of counsel for the defence are now being hoard.
The debate on the Addresses in Reply was resumed in the House of Commons to-day, and lasted during tho greater part of the sitting. Lord Hartington made an exhaustive speech, in the course of which he severely attacked the Irish Land League and its mode of action, alluding to the Land Bill, which has been introduced by Government He expressed the opinion that the provisions were founded on lines of justice to both tenant and landlord. The debate stands further adjourned.
The detached squadron is under orders to proceed to the Cape. It is understood that this movement is due to the Boer rebellion in the Transvaal.
Information has been received that the report received iv Bombay yesterday that a plot had been discovered among the natives of Kolaporc to assassinate the European residents is without foundation. Cape Towx, Jan 12. Communication, though of an intermittent character, luis again been established between Natal and the Transvaal, and information has been received regarding the. position of the British troops at Poacher. Potschefstroon; Doers have laid seige to the pl.'ice, but (lie garrison can hold out lor :i month, having sufficient supplies for that period ; and it is hoped that by that time reinforcements can be sent for the relief of the b. seiged.
