YACHT RACE, open to all comersFirst prize £'25, second £5 ; entrance £2. The two yachts, namely Fleotwing and the Venture started at 12.35. They got away in capital style, the Venture took the. lead by a few yards ftt the start, the Fleetwing keeping close behind. Tho race resulted in a win to Mr Black's Venture, by nine minutes. An accident happened to the Lyttelton whale-boat, Dauntless, manned by J« Pierce, W. Agcr,and S. Tolly ; she capsized
and sank. Mr" G.: Wright's boat, Edith Wynne immediately put off and rescued t c three men in the water; we might also mention the two boats namely Mr Steward and crew, and Mr Thomas, who pulled with great skill to the rescue but were overtaken by Mr Wright's boat. MEN'S PAIR-OARED RACE — First prize £8, second £l ; entrance ss. Entries—Pakeha, W and Jas Thomas ; Molly, J and A Wright ; Annie Wright, L and W Stewart. The three boats started, all pulling well until the finish, when the brothers Stewart pulled away from the others in capital style with J. and A. Thomas second; thethird boat was completely out -of the race. PAIR-OARED RACE, for boys undlr 18—-First-,prize 30s, second 10s ; -, entrance 2s 6d. " There were three entries for this race; the results were as follows:—lst Molly, Jollieand Walters ; 2nd Pakeha, Glynanand Williams , 3rd Annie Wright, Watkins Bros. SAILING RACE, for open boats (30 feet keel and under) —First prize £10, second £3 ; entrance £1. Mr W B Tosswill's Dream, 1 ; Mr Geo. Wright's Edith Wynne, 2. There were four others started, Mr T S. Baker's Avalanche ; Mr E. S. Latter'a May ; Mr Wynan's Post boy and Mr Thomas' Blanche, Dauntless scratched* This race wss a gift to Mr TosßwiU'o Dream which won easily; OPEN BOAT SAILING RACE (20 feet keel and under) —First prize £fi, second £2 ; entrance 10s. First, Faiufh-a-ballagh ; Second. Pakeha Hopeful, Foam, and Day Dawn also started. PAIR-OARED RACE, for boys under 16—First prize £1, second ss; entrance Is. First, Annie Wright, Watkins and Haylock; Second, Mollie, Tosswill and Fenton. DINGY SAILING RACE, for boys under 16—-First prize £2, second £1 ; entrance ss. No entries MEN'S SINGLE SCULL RACE— First prize £1 ; entrance Is. Stewart, 1 ,- John Thomas, 2 ; Joseph Thomas, 3 WATER POLO—Prize L 5, with entrances added':; entrance ss. Four competitors entered for this prize, which was won by L. Wilkin MEN'S PAIR-OARED SCULLING RACE—First prize £1, second prize 55..; entrance Is. W Stewart, 1 ; G Wright, 2 ; James Thomas, 3 The d'y passed off very well; there was a very large attendance to witness the races.
