AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Wednesday. Dec. 8, 1880

A meeting of this Council was held on the above date at their offices, Balguerie street. Present:—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs Cullen, Garwood, Gutberlet, and McGregor.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Clerk read the outward correspondence, consisting of a telegram to the Postmaster General re the cessation of the Pigeon Bay mail service ; and a letter to the Commissioner of Telegraphs, complaining of the additional charge on telegrams to and from Akaroa. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read :— From the Secretary to the Post Office ) regarding the Pigeon Bay service. The Postal Department h:id taken a week to answer the Council's telegram. The Secre. tary said the mail would be sent by whaleboat that day, Dec. G. From the Lyttelton Boiough Council asking for certain information as to salaries etc., paid by the Council. The Mayor stated that the letter had been replied to. FINANCE. The following were reported to be the receipts since last meeting :—General rate £105 12s lid, dog tax 10s, footways upper Jollie street £1 15s, petroleum licenses £_ ; total, £109 17s lid. His Worship reported that at last they had a balance on the right side of the ledgeu The Council had now a credit balance at the bank of £47 6s lOd. The announcement was received with cheers. Cr Cullen reported that be had emploj'ed a carpenter to repair the kerbing. The account for labor and nails (amounting to 6s) was ordered to be paid. DOG REGISTRAR. The Mayor called attention to the fact that it would be necessary for the Council under the new Dog Registration Act to appoint a dog registrar. On the motion of Cr McGregor, seconded by Cr Cullen, Mr W. Sims was appointed to the office. £T. DOCKS DAY. Cr Cullen suggested that something be done in relation to clearing the streets of tho docks, weeds, &c. After some conversation on the matter, Cr McGregor proposed that tenders for the work be inserted in the next issue of the Mail, tenders to be sent in on the same day.and that His Worship, the Mayor elect, and Cr Cullen be empowered to accept a tender. Seconded by Cr Gutberlet and carried. (Crs Black and Brown here entered the chamber). REGATTA. Cr Black asked if an application bad been received from the Regatta Committee for the use of the Beach reserves on the 16th. His Worship replied in the negative. Cr Black then put in an application, which was granted. The Council then adjourned.
