THE FORTHCOMING REGATTA. To the Editor.
Sir,— Will you allow me a little space in your paper to make a few remarks re the Akaroa Regatta ? I have heard many people say that tbey will not contribute to the prize fund because of tire absurd manner in which the money has been allotted. For instance. £5 is to be given for the whaleboat race, arid £30 in the yacht race. Now, the former race istheor.lyone which will be keenly contested, and the one which Akaroans will take most interest it, because there are four local whaleboats and only one local yacht. Our money -should not be thrown away in that manner. I would like to see more encouragement given to local boatmen, and I am certain that the residents of Akaroa would take more interest in the regatta if this were done. If this ruthless squandering ; of money is allowed to go on, our annual; regatta will soon be a thing of the past.— \ I am, etc., ONLOOKER.
