MAYORAL ELECTIONS.
On Wednesday the polling-, for tlie ■ Mayoralty took place in the different : cities or boroughs in which more than ; one candidate was nominated. The results were as follow :— ciiaTSToiinncH. Gapes 55S Ayers 439 Majority for Gapes ... 119 SYDENHAM. John Thompson Brown ... 1(51 John Joyce 104 Majority for Brown ... 57 LYTTKLTON. Harry Allwrijrlrt 197 Samuel R. Webb 108 Mr All wright thus having a majority of 89. WAIMATR. John Manchester 89 G. R. Freeman .. ... 58 There were no contests in the remaining boroughs in Canterbury. From Wellington we learn that the election for the Mayoralty was the most exciting ever held there. The results showed Hutchison at the head of the poll, Young second, Diver third, and Dwan fourth.
nUNEDIN. The Mayoral election here resulted as follows :—
A. r-T. Robs 872 11. S. Fish GBB There was an immense crowd at the declaration of the poll.
