IMPORTANT SALE OF STOCK.
Messrs H. Matson and Co. held their annual sale of shorthorn cattle and blood stock at Tattert-all's. The sale began at 10 a.m., and went on with only a short intermission for lunch till nearly 6 p.m. The attendance of the public was very large, and most of the lots were sold at satisfactory prices. With their usual liberality, Messrs Matson and Co. provided their patrons with a champagne lunch, catered by Mr Morton. Of the blood stock, Quamby brought the highest price, 200 guineas, and of tho Shorthorns, Duchess of Brunswick the sth brought 500gs, Second Snmmerton's Earl of Brunswick brought 400ga, Flower of Derrimnt 2nd brought 330gs, and Oxford Duke of Cambridge 2nd, and roan Summerton the 3rd and 28tl. Duchess of Derrimut, IbroughtaOOgseach. It will be seen by 'the details given below that other high ;pricefi were realised, nnd that some of S. tGwdiner'a quarantined stock have passed into the hands of Canterbury owners. The knocking down of these animals to Messrs John Deans and John Grigg was received with loud applause, and on one occasion with threr cheers. Not a few of i the cattle were purchased by buyers from Wellington, Otago, Napier, Wanganui and Marl borough. The following prices were realised by Peninsula stockowners :—Pure-bred shorthorns, (the property of Messrs Hay 8r05.,) Rufus--30gs, Mr W. C. Buchanan. Lord Lovell—lOOge, Mr Jackeon. Lord Clyde —140gs, Mr Tanner. Biancus--57£gs, Mr Adams. (The property of Mr John Gebbie.) London Lass—4ogs, Mr Tanner.
