Original Correspondence

We are at all times ready to give express-

BJon to every shnde of opinion, but in no ease do we hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents.]

A NARROW ESCAPE, To the Editor.

Sir, —As the coach was entering Akaroa last Friday, and upon passing the Madeira Hotel, a child about 2£ yean old made a sudden dart into the centre of the road, in front of the horses. It was knocked down, the coach passing over it without doing it the slightest injury. This fortunate circumstance I attribute to the coolness displayed by the driver (Mr B. Barker), f r had he been at all nervous, the child would have inevitably been killed.

I write this in the hope that it, may have the effect of inducing mothers to look after their children and keep them at home, instead of allowing them to wander about the streets unprotected. This would have beeii a serious matter for the driver had the child been killed.—l am, etc., A PASSENGER.

Akaroa, Nov. 6.
