The " Post " says :—At a meeting of the Cabinet to-day, it was decided to give all the Police Inspectors and Sub Inspectors recently dismissed for retrenchment's sake, the option of continuing in the service cither at a lower grade and at a lower salary or else in the ranks, as may be found practicable.
Timaru Oct. 13
A telegram was received here from Government to-night, that Inspector Pender's Inspectorship would date from 1861, and that he would not be included amongst the reductions. This Jntelilgence is highly gratifying to all sections of the community in South Canterbury.
