Intelligence has been received regarding the action of the combined European fleet now at Ragusa in the Adriatic, which has been sent as a naval demonstration against Turkey. The news is to the - effect that Vice-Admiral Sir Paget Seymour, who commands the whole squadron, recently despatched an ultimatum to Ali Riza Tasha, the commander of the Turkish forces at Dulcigno, demanding,the immediate cession of that town and district to Montenegro. No answer has been returned by Riza Pasha neither have any steps been taken by him to execute the demandiof the Powers made through the British Admiral. Sept. 21. At the wool sales to-day, 9600 bales were offered ; prices were firmly maintained, and there was a good attendance. of home and foreign'buyers. The 51 per 'cent N. News have been received lrom Cape Town that 1,200 Basutos attacked the Cape Rifles which are operating against them, and killed an officer and two men. The Rifles, however, inflicted heavy loss on the Basutos.
The land league agitation movement in Ireland is at present very active.
Trickett and Laycock are both well and continue in ; active training. The latter is sanguine of winning his race with Clarkham ; he has now got his new boat from Saddler Winship of New-castlc-on-Tyne. Hanlan has arrived in England and gone to Putney where he has gone into training.
