NOT ROB ROY.
To the Editor
SiH, —" Ratepayer, ,, in his letter of the 1 1 id) iii.st., is evidently an interested party, and from (h<? tenor uJ' his letter has had J«id coin , ') cut l>y the ranger. The bile of the
animal is amusing when he says the members sneaked into office. l'nsk him why the late Chairman (Mr Duxbiuy), who was always to the fore when there was plenty of funds, did not put in an appearance simply because it was better to draw a salary as foreman than being a member of the Biard with an empty exchequer.
" Ratepayer" forgets tho main question with reference to cattlo trespass upon the in in roads, which id that a few owners make a practice of grazing their whole herd upon them, thereby taxing the whole of the district for thi'ir especial benefit, aa weli as endangering the lives ot travellers.
In conclusion, sir, if the ranger oversteps his duties he is amennble to the law. The ranger's duties are defined, and the roads are particularised in the memo, he signed, and if "Ratepayer" had any reasoning power he would have informed himself of the particulars before rushing into print.—l am, etc.,
