Melbourne, September 13,

The P. it O. Co.'s steamshiw Assam, •with the inward Suez mails, which arrived off Port Jackson on Saturday night, was unable to enter until Inst night, owing to the heavy gale which was then blowing on the coast. Very heavy rains have fallen, and portions of both Melbourne and Geelong are now flooded. Tho afternoon departure of tho Ringarooma for New Zealand is postponed until Thursday, owing to the Yarri having overflowed its banks. Serious inundations have been caused, and traffic with several of ahe suburbs is stopped. The lower portions of Melbourne, near the river, are in high flood, and business there is suspended. McMcckan, Blackwood and Co.'s offires are flooded, and they have taken temporary premises. Sydney, September 13. Sir H. Robinson arrived to-day, and was received by a guard of honor, and escorted to Government House, where he ■will be the guest of Lord Loftus whilst in Sydney. Brisbane, Sept. 15. The vote, for the salary of AgentGeneral in London meet with opposition in the Assembly, owing to the alleged inefficiency of the gentleman filling the position.

Adedaide, Sept. 13

The Sorata is greatly exposed to the gale which is blowing, and her position is critical.
