AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of this Board was hold on Saturday last at their offices, Duvauchello's Bay. Present—Messrs Chappell (Chairman), Shadbolt, Piper and Williams. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. OLD DUVAUCHELLE'S BAY ROAD. Mr Joseph Libeau wailed on the Board, asking what they intended to do with regari to the closing of this road. It was proposed by Mr Williams—That the old Duvauchelle's Bay road be advertised, with a view of complying with the Public Works Act, so as to complete the closing it. Seconded by Mr Piper, and carried. RHODES' FLAT. With reference to the closing of this road, two telegrams were read : one from Mr Montgomery, and another from the Public Works Department. The latter ran as follows:—" Re stoppage of road in Rhodes' Flat, Wainui.~-A certificate of Crown Solicitor, Christchurch, that land given by Mr Rhodes has been conveyed to Queen, and deed of registration is required. Matter only waits this. Any cost to be borne by Road Board." tßesolved that a letter be written to Mr Latter, enclosing a copy of the telegram, and requesting him to get the conveyance executed. MISCELLANEOUS CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read— From Mr Louis Le Vaillant, repudiating one written in his name to the Board, asking for a road. From Mr R. Wilkin, enclosing plan of Mr Inman's property. From the Public Works Department, stating that the Minister was advised that the statutory declaration in the matter of the French Farm road was incomplete. From Messrs Izard & Loughnan, threatening proceedings for the recovery of the amount due by tho Board to the estate of W. Kenny. On the motion of Mr Williams it was resolved to forward to tho trustee in Kenny's estate the amount due. The Clerk reported the balance due to be Lls 19s lid. From. Mr S. Hunt, complaining of a bad place on the French Farm road, near Mr Baker's residence. Mr Hunt offered to do the labor gratuitously, if the Board would find the pipes. It was resolved that Mr Barwick should report as to whether the spot referred to was on the old or new line of road. From Messrs Hall and Sweeney, asking a further extension of time of two months for their contract on the Hill Top. Extension granted, contractors to be informed that no further extension would be granted. TAKA MATUA ESTATE. It was resolved to write to Mr Nalder, informing him that the plan of the above estate was at the Road Board Office, and could be inspected. TENDERS. Tho following tenders for the Long Bay Summit road were opened : —Peter Brown (2 months) L 45 19s; Funnell and Curragb (2 months), L 64 ; L. J. Johnson (3 months), LSO; W. Jones (3 months)) L 42 2s. Mr Jones' tender was accepted. PAYMENTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:—J. Lines, L2O ; Hall and Sweeney, L2O ; Jacobson and Johnson, Ll 8a; W. D. Wilkins (arbitration fee), L 7 7s ; Wight Jand Bruce (freight), Ll le; Peter Johnson (progress payment), L2O. Total, L 69 16s. It was left in the hands of the Chairman to make payments as soon as the Board should be in funds. AN APPLICATION. Mr Gunning applied for an additional half chain of metalling which he had executed in one of his contracts. The matter bad already been under consideration, and it was decided not to entertain the application. The Board then adjourned till Saturday, September 25.
