In the House of Representatives, on Monday, August 23, tho Hon the Colonial Treasurer moved tho second reading of the Beer Duty Bill, and in doing so stated that, including the 10 per cent, the total reductions amounted to £218,000, and the tota net saving for tho year to £197,000There would be a surplus at the end of th« year of £131,000. The savings effected this year, if carried out next, would amount to £252,000. With regard to tho subsidies, the Government would pay one-half for the remaining nine months of tho year, or a total of £100,000 With regard to the beer duty, it would produce about L 135,000, and up to tho present time had realised L 58,000. A MEETING of the leading Jews Ins been convened from all parts of the world to be hel 1 in London, for the purpose of Tonsidering the adviwability of assimilating tlft Jewish with the Christian Sabbath.
