Armstrong, Kissel, 'SToOnan, Bruce, and Black. ''•-""'' "" ' ' ' CHAIRMAN. •' in the absence of His Worship the Mayor, Cr Armstrong proposed, Cr Kisse) seconded,-and it was carried—That Cr Cullen take the chair. . . • MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. -"■.'..• 'CORRESPONDENCE.. The outward correspondence was read. The only inward correspondence was a letter from Mr G. Sadler, asking protections for the reserve he was leasing near -.Lelievres' farm, stating that his cattle were in danger of being impounded for trespassing, as Mr Lelievre refused to put the slip ! rails up. • , j Mr Noonan said that was rather hard lines for Mr Sadler, and considered the Council Bhould protect him. \ Cr Bruce proposed, and Cr Black seconded—That the Clerk be instructed to send for a copy of the new Fencing Ordnance, and likewise any other acts be might think would be useful to the Council.—Carried. Cr Bruce proposed; and Cr Armstrong seconded—That a sub-committee consisting,^,Messrs Noonan and. Black be appointed to, consider Mr Sadler's caseCarried. The Clerk stated, in the absence of His Worship, that the Mayor had paid the amount of Ll3 10s into the R.M. Court in Mr Roberts' case. —The action was approved of. ' • WORKS COMMITTEE. . Or Cullen stated that the bridge over Bruce's Creok had been repaired, and that tho dangerous bridge near Bailey's Hotel had been closed ; also that the ditch on the Cemetery Road had been cleared out. . FINANCE COMMITTEE. Cr Kissel stated that the overdraft at tho bank amounted to L 172 2s Bd. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Yowen (lamplighting), L 5 8s 4d ; Ditely (labor); ss; Akaroa Mail (advertising, etc.), L 8 19s 9d. ORDINARY BUSINESS. A statement was read from Mr Sims, Returning Officer, declaring that Mr Cam. Brown had been duly elected a councillor
in the place of Mr A. G. Wiggins (resigned). :i AYLMER'S VALLEY ROAD. Cr Bruce asked if the Council were willing to take any steps towards forming a road through Aylmer's Valley. He stated that the rate pay em. were willingto contribute their share towards the work. They paid their rates, and he thought they should be assisted. DEFICIENCY. Cr Armstrong referred t© the fact that as yet nothing had heen done towards claiming the amonnt of the deficiency in the late Clerk's account from , his surety. He moved that Mr Garwood be written to, informing him that the deflciencyjin the late Clerk's account amounted to L&IS, and' that if he refused to |pay it legal proceedings would be instituted. Gt Bruce thought the discussion had better be postponed till the next meeting, seeing His Worship the Mayor was absent. He moved a v resolutio*l tb that effefct,which ,was carried. _'; (.'•: ' The meeting then adjourned.
