OKAIN'S BAY POUND.

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. gj r# —What is the explanation of the fact that some eighteen months ago the settlers of Okain's Bay requested the Road Board to erect a public Pound, which the Road Board did at the expense of £50. and since that time the County Council have appointed a poundkeeper to whom the keys have been handed over, but owing to the necessary books not having beon supplied by the Council tbe pound has been converted into a slaughteryard with a gallows rigged in it. 111-natured, people might remark that the Chairman of the County Council has both cattle and sheep running over his neighbours' land, which, knowing their security, may be seen constantly rubbing themselves against the very rails of the pound. I find the Pigeon Bay pound has been opened arid cattle impounded in it although only erected within the last four months. That we are suffering a great injustice in the matter there can be no doubt. Can you kindly point out any remedy for us ? Yours &c, MERCATOR. June 28,1880. [Those interested should apply again to the County Council.—Ed. A. M.J
