The monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board's office, on Saturday, the oth instant. ■'

The Chairman reported what steps he had taken to put the Board in a position to reply to Mrs E. Holmes , agent, who had interdicted the Board from proceeding any further with the road connecting Pigeon Bay.with Port Lev}'. Alro, what he had done with a view to recruiting the funds of the Board. ; " • ' CORKESPONDSNCE. The following correspondence was then read :— From Mr J. Holmes, solicitor, Christchurch, agent for Mrs ;E. Holmes, interdibting the Board frond proceeding any further with the road to Port Levy. -From- the Chief Surveyor re above letter. . .
From the Registrar-Gen'sral, Wellington, re return to Government. '
From Mr M'Gregor, Akaroa, requesting liberty of access to rate roll and district rqap. Granted.
From Mr Morris, of the Survey Office, :.Christchurcli, respecting an account sent ;in with a letter from Mr M'Gregor, Akaroa, referring to same. It was left in the hands of the Chairman to arrange the matter. From Messrs Joynt and Percival, of Christchurch, regarding an account against Mr Ash win. . . . The Clerk was instructed to reply that the Board repudiated any liability, as Mr Ashwin's contract had lapsed. From Mr Rapp, of Masterton, regarding the same matter, and enclosing an account. From Mr M'Hale, requesting progress payment. Granted. .From same, requesting an extension of time for his contract. Left an open question. Also, asking permission to make alterations on works as per specifications. This was refused unless sanctioned by the Engineer. • From Mr Hodnett, requesting progress payment; also, an extension of time for contract for two months. Granted. From surfaceman, reporting on month's work. From Messrs Paton and Neil, calling attention to the bad state of Paton's road. Some conversation followed on the state of.the roads in other parts of the district. On the representation of Mr G. M'Kay, the metalling of the two bridges on the Main road near. Mr Gille3pie's was authorised. A deputation, consisting of Messrs Robinaon and A. Firmston, on behalf of Mr WoodilPs creditors in Pigeon Bay, waited on the Board, asking if it was agreeable that said creditois should finish Woodill's contract. * . . No definite answer waa returned. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr W. Smith for his acceptance of the office '
Poundkeeper, and re , ' the duties of the same. J ■■■■■. Also, to Messrs Austin and 'Kirk, of Christehurch; to supply some drain pipes. Accounts to the amount of £141 5s 3d were passed for payment..! v ./ . Tin's finished the ordinary business of the Board, which then adjourned.
