In Paris, when n man haa no home, no work, no food, and but scanty clothing, he is called a "Nihilist;" when he has all these and neglects wife and family, lie is named " Canaque," after the aboriginals of New Caledonia. It has been said tbat Paris is a city where one can best cxis* without happi ness. Voltaire attributed his having been able to write so many works to his having resided bo little in the capital. 'Mile. Auclere, aged 25, is the leader of the woman movement in France ; she is becoming a powerful oratrice. She is a noted free-thinker and Communist. At a recent meeting she said —If women went to church, it was the fault of men refusing them political rights. "If you desire to prevent women praying and to shut up the churches, allow them to vote."
