Dearest marey pure and holey meek an lowly lovely rose of sharon so no more at present from your future and loving husband." I should like to have given the proceedings of the South Dunedin Council's last meeting in extenso, but owing to the limited space at my disposal this week, I have been compelled to summarize the report as follows : — You've heard of the row on the " Flat," When councillors met for a chat, To fix up the roll For the burgesses' poll, And fight for the franchise that's pat, They sat And snarled like dogs at a cat. They wanted to banish the Mayor From out of the old arm chair, For writing his name On the " Flat " roll of fame, His Worship moved not, 'twasn't fair; He'd dare The Council to drive him from there,. A councillor then named Mcßride Got up on his legs and replied^ The Mayor was unfit In office to sit— Then Councillor Carey soon cried, " Yer pride Is only excelled by yer side." Then Councillor Osmond got red, And rising in anger thus said : " You're out of your place, And that chair you disgrace, No longer by you we'll be led At our bead." A ratepayer cried : " go to bed-" And then all the fun began right, They challenged each other to fight; Each Councillor's tongue Seemed remarkably hung, They managed to bark more than bite That night, And then they went out and got tight. FRANK FUDGE.
