THE GOVERNMENT AUDITOR PETITION.
To the Editor of the Alcaroa Mail. JS^ Sir,—That " Honesty ia the best policy" in dealing with Municipal, as with .private-, affairs, all will w/mit. Ih it too much then to ask the promoters of the petition calling on the Government to send down an auditor to be candid with the public, and let their petition lie for inspi j ction_ and M signature at some central place of business. At present it U carried about as stealthily, "M and guarded as jealously, as would be a W pheasant shot out of sea-on. In a matter so important to the Borough it in due to the general body of the ratepayers that * full publicity should be given to any proposed action. Failing this, it will appear that the few are trying to get the better of the many by keeping tl>e»» in the dark. The counter-petition is open to the public at Ganvood and Co.'s store. This is fair play and above board. Will the Government Auditor Petition party also deal openly, and show that they are honestly working for the public good ? Yours, &c, if PRO BONO PUBLICO. May 10.
