LITTLE RIVER.

(from our own correspondent.)

A meeting of persons interested in tho Little River Races was held at Olphert's Hotel on Saturday evening last, the 10th instant. The attendance was good. A good working committee wasappointed, and the date of the races was fixed for the 24th May next. The Secretary was requested to, write to a number of gentlemen, asking them to act as stewards. A list, showing subscriptions to the amount of £33, was brought forward. The meeting then adjourned to Saturday, the 17th instant, when stewards will be appointed, and the programme fixed. . A meeting of the Cemetery Trust should have been held on Monday last, the 12th instant, but lapsed for want of a quorum. I notice the Trustees did not call for tenders for fencing, as per resolution passed at the last meeting.

A letter, very numerously signed, was forwarded on Monday last, the 12th inst., to Mr G. R. Joblin, Chairman of the Recreation Ground Committee, asking him to render a statement of accounts, and to call a public meeting, but up to the present time no reply has been made; which, to say the least, is not very courteous on that gentleman's part. If no reply is received within the next few days, a public meeting will be called to take the matter into consideration.

An entertainment, consisting of a dance and a few songs, was given in the Library on Thursday last, the object being to entertain Miss Fanny Tyson (a young lady well known here), prior to her departure for Christchurch, where she will for the future be located.
