A CORRECTION.
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail
Sir, —In your report of the proceedings of the Borough Council in last Friday's issue, I find I am entirely misrepresented in my remarks about the making public certain correspondence which you obtained from the Council Chamber.
I am reported to have said that I objected to certain correspondence being published without giving any reason, simply implying that I wished the public to be kept in the dark. The fact is, I objected to your publishing correspondence and commenting thereon before it had been laid before the Council.
Respecting your remarks as to the Council withholding correspondence from the public, or, to use your own expression, " bottling it up," I can only say that I have never seen anything but the fullest information tendered to the reporter, and as he is present at the meetings of the Council, every facility is given him to inform the public of their proceedings.
Yours, &c,
W. PENLINGTON.
