Business during the week has been 'greatly interfered with !>y the holidays, and it can "scarcely be said to have yet reflumed its usual routine. There i* consequently very little to report. The tew transactions which have transpired have been of a very meagre character, merely sorting up orders for immediate wants.
In galvanifsed iron and other heavy goods, there is absolutely no business passing. Wβ observe that another contract for 1000 tons cement has been let by'the Timnru Harbour Board at the price of £4 11s per ton, delivered at Timaru—this is •equivalent to 16s Gd per cask.
Shipments of wheat for England con tinue to be made on a liberal scale, but a check has been sustained during the past ifew days owing to a deficiency of tonnage.
