AKAROA RAILWAY MEETING.

A meeting of the members of the Akaroa Railway Committee and the general public was he'd yesterday at noon in tho offices of the Akaroa County Council, Duvaucholle's Bay.

Mr J. D,. Garwood, the Chairman of tlio Committee, occupied the chair, and amongst the gentlemen present were his Worship the Mayor of Akaroa, the Chairman of the County Council, Messrs Piper, Roberts, Adams, Dawuer, Watkins. Brooks, Reid, Stewart, S. Hunt;, Saxton, Williams, Barker, Joblin, and Sliadbolt. The chairman read a telegram from Mr Montgomery, tho district Representative, which has already appeared in our columns, stating that the Royal Commission on New Zealand Railways would vibit tie Peninsula after they had finished their labors in Otago. Tho Chairman further explainci the action generally takcMi by the deputation when interviewing the Minister of Public Works in Chrietehureh. '

Mr S. Watkins moved—" That the preteat members of the Akaroa Railway Committee be continued, with j.ower to add to their number, and that they take all necessary steps to collect statistics and procure witnesses to give evidence on the subject of the Akaroa line before the Railway Commissioners."

' The motion was seconded by Mr &. 11. f Saxtori, and carried. I The Chairman abked the .meeting, to, [ give the members of Committee any suggestions that might occur to them as to 1 how the duties now imposed upon the " Committee were to be carried out. ' i Mr Piper was of opinion that on the last occasion when the Committee was appointed, many useful names were omitted, ' and it was arranged that the following 1 names be added to the Conunittco, viz., i Messrs G. 11. Saxton, E. C. Latter, J. Daly , W. B. Tosswill, J. F. liobeJts, and H. Buchanan. Mr Piper further suggested that the members of Committee present be asked I to send to the Chairman accounts in writing from their several districts of the quantity of cereal and other crops raised, : the number of cattle, horses, sheep, &0., and also any statistical information that might occur to them. It was arranged that the following gentlemen send in to the Chairman accounts oi : the districts allotted to them :— Mr J. B. Barker, Little Akalua, Decanter and Stony Bays; MrG-. Black, from the qp/rth of Onuku, following the coast lino to Long Bay; Mr Eiienne Leliovre, Long Bay, Fisherman and Gough's Bays ; Mr James Daly, Waikerakikari, to the boundary of the Okain's Bay Road District ; Mr J. Dalglish, Lo Eon's and Laveriek's Bays ; Messrs Janies and Thomas Hay, Macintosh, Pigeon and Holmes' Bays to Port Levy bouudary ; Mr J. Harris, the Port Leyy Road District; Mr J. Gebbie, Geubie£ Valley and Tai Tapu; Mr and Price's valleys; Forsyth and all

Peraki, Okuti, and Kinloch valleys; Mr Col McDonald, Wainui Riding ; Mr H. Piper, Duvauchelle'e and Head of the Bay ; Mr F. W. Williams, Robinson's and German Bay to Borough boundary; the Borough, his Worship the Mayor. It was also arranged that Mr Coop be requested to furnish the timber statistics, and Mr J. Murray the acreage of the pasture of the land reclaimed from Lake Ellewmere. The Chairman specially pointed out the desireability of members of the Committee and residents in the district furnishing the required information as early and as completely ao possible. Mr Williams then moved that the following gentlemen be appointed a subCommittee to collate and arrange the information received, with a view of putting it into shape, before the next meeting of the Committee, viz.:—His Worship the Mayor, J. F. Roberts, G. H. Saxton, B. Shadbolt, H. Piper, the Chairman and mover. The motion was-seconded by Mr Joblin, and carried. The meeting then adjourned, on the understanding that the Chairman would call it together again as occasion required.
