OKAIN'S ROAD BOARD.

To ihe Editor of the Aharoa Mail.

* Sir,—l see by your reportof " a visitor to Okain's Bay" that the road from the Akaroa side renders it possible to get over toOkainsin a wheeled conveyance; so, what with a jetty convenient to send away produce and a good road into the neighbourhood, theinhabitants may congratulate themselves on their present good fortune. Le Bon's is not so well favored, the jetty is perfectly useless to the inhabitants, the harbor accomodation is worse than it was * eighteen years ago, and at the present time there is nothing but a bridle track into the Bay. , fl . nrt Upon enquiring I find that nearly £400 has been spent on the Okain's Road be- - longing to Le Bon's share of public money. As the Road Board has the prospects of funds, in justice to the Le Bon's Bay, something should be done to make the to meet the ridge road on the Akaroa side. It behoves the ratepayers of Le Bon's to bestir themselves and support their members to get them a main road out. It is & matter of "now or never." Le Bona people are paying more than double for freight to Lyttelton than is charged by * steamer from Akaroa to Lyttelton, with a very great risk. I have no doubt if the road was made, most of the produce from Le Bon's would be brought to Akaroa to be _ shipped. Trusting that Le Bon's ratepayers will see to this matter before it is too late. Yours, &c,.
