PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board's office, on Saturday, Gth instant.

Present: Messrs Hay (Chairman), Budua, and Pettigrew. The minutes of last meeting having been confirmed, the Clerk was instructed to write to Mr A. I. M'Gregor, Akaroa, the Assessor and Judge of the Assessment Court, on points relating to the valuation roll.

Letters were read

From Messrs Joynt and P'ercival, solicitors, Christchurch, the first advising the Board to have a time fixed for the completion of Mr Ashwin's contract, and on his failing to finish it within the specified time, to ignore any liability under the contract; and the second, referring to a missing Deed of Transfer. From the Engineer, enclosing the specifications for Fenton's road. From the County Council, requesting to know the amount of the rate roll for 1879, with a view to a pro rala distribution of funds.

From the Secretary to the Colonial Treasury, intimating the remittance to the credit of the Board's account at the Bank of New Zealand, Lyttelton.of £28718s 3fl, as its share of a grant in lieu of Surplus Land Revenue of Canterbury. As the Board deemed the sum too small, the Clerk was instructed to write to Wellington regarding the matter. From Mr James McHale. requesting an extension of time for his contract (granted) ; and requesting a progress payment, which the Board refused till the Engineer should pass the work. Mr Budua reported the result of his interview with the Misses Marshall, and the Board decided upon receiving 30s as settlement of its claim against them. ■Thereafter the tenders for making Fenton's road were opened : — £ s. d. 1.
