ONE THING AND ANOTHER.
(Collated from our Exchanges.)
.A newspaper proprietor advertised for an advertisement canvasser, and liis test of the applicants' fitness, when they appeared, was to tell them to get out of his office that instant or he would kick them out. Several timid young men turned tail and left him with great disgust ; but one, more brazenfaced than the rest, nothing daunted by the threat, coolly sat himself down and ewore that he would not go until his testimonials had been read. So he locked the door, put the key in his pocket, and handed in his papers. " Ah," said the advertiser, " you'll do, I can see ! I don't want testimonials; your style is enough for me. No one will ever succeed as an advertisement canvasser who will be influenced by a threat to be kicked out of any office. You evidently understand your business." Speaking of nautical terms, was Noah's ■wife his first mate ?
A Madison paper gives a. fearful acof woman's perfidy. A young man went to take his girl for a walk, but found that she had not done her milking. With a galantry that does credit to the Madison young man, he volunteered to do the milking for her, while she was making her toilet. After he had got her milking done, had hung the milk stool on the bars, and set the pail of milk in the kitchen, washed his hands at the pump with, soft soap and wiped them on the tail of his duster, he discovered that she had gone to a circus with another young man who did not know enough to extract milk from a iinilk waggon. The deserted young man kicked over the milk pail and went Ms way a sadder .man.
