Melbourne, Feb. 28

In the election, O'Loughlin and Munro have been defeated. Berry tops the poll for Geelong by a small majority. Service has been elected for Maldon. The Opposition liave gained all tlie seats for Melbourne and the suburbs; Feb. 29. Seventy-five returns have been received. The Opposition so far claim a majority of nine. Pearson and all the other Ministers except O'Loughlin have been elected. Casey, L. L. Smith, and Dickson have been defeated. March 1. Arrived—Albion, U. S. S. Co., from New Zealand. The Argus to-day states that the Opposition have a majority of ten. The Age publishes a return showing a majority of twelve for the Opposition. The latter journal, in a leading article in this morning's issue, referring to the election blames Barry for the defeat of the Liberal party in Victoria. '"from the lyttelton times.) Sydney, Feb. 28. The total subscriptions obtained in this Colony towards the "Irish Relief Fnnd amount to £20000. Melbourne, Feb. 28. The following exhibitors at the Melbourne Juvenile Exhibition have been awarded silver medals :—A. P. M'Carthy, Joseph Bently, F. Ange, Fred M'Carthy, Maggie Armstrong, Eleanor C. Sperry, residents of Dunedin ; Edward N. Barraud, Wanganui ; Henry JH. M. Dobson, Christchurch; Dennis O'Brien, Wellington. The New Zealand exhibitors have also been awarded 10 first class certificates, 5 second, and 8 third.
