Sydney, Feb. 23
Three prisoners effected their escape from Casino Gaol yesterday by removing a slab in the wall. They secured a police horse and got cloan away. The police are now in pursuit.

Melboubne, Feb. 20,
Sir Charles Gavan Duffy, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly during the last Parliament, leaves for England by the outgoing Suez mail steamer Assam.
Mr Lingard, the actor, has been served with a writ at the instance of Mr J. C. Williamson for £2000 damages in connection with the performance of "Pinafore" by the Lingard troupe.
Signor Gonzuela, a resident in Melbourne, has been appointed Italian Consul for Australasia, with jurisdiction in New Zealand and Fiji.
