The attendance of the farming community was not numerous, doubtless owing to the superior attractions elsewhere in the way of the trial of the new string harvester, which was going on at Irwell and other places. Messrs W. E. Ivey (College Farm), J. Sharp (Lincoln), and Mr C. Bourn (Southbridge), had been chosen judges. The other machine finished work soon after wards.

The machines were then subjected to •several tests, such as Mgli and low setting, &c. The judges spared <no pains to arrive at a sound and equitable decision, and ultimately were unanimous in declaring in favor of Messrs Scott Bros', machine. The verdict gave general satisfaction, although the machine of Messrs Duncan and Co. did good work also, and is simple in construction.
