PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Saturday, January 3,1880. Present—All the members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read — From J. Woodill, putting in a claim for extra haulage on stone for first sea wall contract, amounting to £75. The Board resolved to have the specifications carried out, and settle Woodill's claim afterwards. Woodill here interviewed the Board, and offered to forego his claim for haulage, and fill up the large ditch at the back of tho ror.d r.rvl vtraigMers and plono the bank, if the Board would forego the pitching of the road. After a good deal of controversy on both sides, it was agreed to leave the matter in the hands of the Chairman and Engineer for settlement with Mr Woodhill. From E. C. Latter, Deputy Land Tax Commissioner, asking if a copy of the map of our district could be obtained, and what the price would be. Chairman to reply. From the Engineer re road through Holmes' Bay, the payment of T. White's wages, and asking progress payment on surveys in hand. From Messrs Pettigrew and Co., asking leave to lay skids across the Akaroa road, opposite thp mill, for the purpose of drawing logs across. Leave granted. Mr Budua reported to the Board that the foundation of two of the bridges on main road wanted looking after, ,and that the one opposite the mill wanted coping: Agreed that Mr Budua overhaul all the bridges on the main road, and have them repaired before the bricklayer leaver the Bay. Mr M'lntosh called the attention of the Board to the fact that Mr Robinson was reaping a great benefit from his store on the public road, and neither paying rent nor rates, and he thought it very unfair to the rest of the ratepayers of the district. Kesolved that Mr M'lntosh communicate with Mr Robinson on the subject, and request him to give a sum of money equivalent to the benefit he has had. either towards tho building of a church in the bay or to some other institution. Proposed by Mr Budua, and seconded by Mr M'Kay—" That Mr ;A. Patterson be appointed returning officer for the district pro tern, till the schoolmaster arrives. Agreed to. Accounts to the amount of £158 14s 3d were passed for payment.
The annual meeting of ratepayers was then held, for the election of two members to serve on the Board for the ensuing year in the place of Messrs Budua and M'Kay, who retire by rotation. After the accounts were passed, which showed a balance in hand of £844 19s 2d, Messrs Budua and Pettigrew were duly elected to serve on the Board for the ensuing year.
The Board met after the election of members, and elected Mr T. 0. Hay their chairman, and after authorising Mr M'lntosh to have the jetty cleaned and tarred, and the chairman to call for and accept tenders for the cocksfoot grass seed on the Akaroa road, adjourned till the first Saturday in next month.
