AKAROA SPORTS.
NEW YEAR'S DAY
The sports arranged for this day in Akaroa were a great success, and attracted a large number of visitors. On the evening previous the weather had been most unpromising, and up tv the morning of Thursday rain fell at intervals, and it was to be feared that the weather would prove as unfavorable as was the case on Anniversary Day. About noon, however, the sun shone out in all its glory, and a delightful day ensued. As we before remarked, a considerable number of visitors were present, and all appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly. It was pleasant to see the numerous family parties sitting about the beach, and the mixture of life and color gave the scene quite a picturesque appearance. For the credit of Akaroa we arc glad to be able to state that, so far as we are aware, not a single case of drunkenness or misbehaviour occurred to mar the day's enjoyment. The gentlemen under whose suptrintendance the sports were carried out deserve every credit for their indefatigable exertions. The Rev H. Stocker officiated as judge; Mr J. G. Scott was secretary; Messrs Kissel and Sadler were handicappers, and Mr R. Noonan and Mr G. Armstrong also rendered valuable assistance.
