The Akaroa Mail. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 30.
Before the next number of this journal appears the year 1879 will be numbered with the past. At such a time we should have liked to have had what the French call a causerie with our readers, and have asked them to pause, with us, for a few moments at the threshold of a New Year, to consider some of the salient features of the year just closing, to draw what hope and comfort were possible from the prospects of the coming one, and mayhap each for his own part to resolve to contribute his share towards making the New Year a happy
one. Want of space, however, compels us to abandon this intention, but we cannot allow the season to pass without a word of kindly greeting to our friends. We have then to offer our most cordial thanks to our supporters fer the kiudness and forbearance we have experienced at their hands in the past. We hope for the future still further to justify the confidence reposed in us. We congratulate the inhabitants of the Peninsula generally on their improved prospects, owing to the favorable season which we are now enjoying, and we heartily wish them one- and all A Happy New Year.
