THE COUNTY COUNCIL AND THE SUMMIT ROAD.
To the Editor of the Alcaroa Mail.
Sir, —I cannot see why people will rush into print before they have considered the arguments about which they write. I notice a letter in your paper of Dec. 2 signed " Ratepayer," in which the County Council is accused of inconsistency in its decisions, and more particularly in reference to the re-grading of a part of the Summit road, whilst they refused to entertain Mr Armstrong's claim to a road being made for him to his own private property. To my mind the cases are widely dissimilar. The Summit road is an outlet from all the bays to the Christchurch road, and therefore must be a benefit to each separate bay through which the said road passes. Mr Armstrong's claims seem to rest on the simple desire for getting, as easily as he can, and of course as cheaply as he can, to his own property. Ido not oare myself for rushing into print, but certainly I do not like nonsense to go unanswered without an attempt, however feeble, of making a reply, and perhaps of provoking still further discussion on the subject. Yours, &c, ANOTHER RATEPAYER.
