From tbe Commissioner of Crown Lands, enclosing copy of letter from Selwyn County Council, representing that a contractor for the Little River Road Board is carting shingle from a reserve at Lincoln.

From Mr T. H. Green, asking for a road to section 19,743, at Ahuriri. From Blanchard and M'lntyre, enclosing account for work done on survey in Okute Valley,----£52 10s.
In the general report submitted, it was represented that the contractors for road repairing were not carrying out their contracts in a satisfactory manner.
Mr J. Archer, the contractor for Nos. 4 and 5 sections, who was in attendance, was informed that no money -would be paid him on account until certain work had been completed. Mr G. li. Joblin and Captain Aschman interviewed the Board for the purpose of getting two more bridges constructed in Western Valley.
After a lengthy discussion, it was concluded, in consideration of the impassable nature of the country in wet weather, to comply with the request. It being represented that some part of the proposed fine of road in the direction of Port Levy would, as laid off, involve compensation in crossing land already Crown granted, it was decided to allow the work to stand over until a proper survey could be made.
In reference to a proposition made at a former meeting, that the contractors for the original road from Peraki Saddle tc Lake Forsyth be presented with a certain sum as remuneration for time spent fruitlessly, it was resolved that, on account of the acknowledged inefficient survey, they be paid the sum of £25 on condition that such payment determine all claims. The following resolution was agreed to— "That application be made through the County Council to Mr Montgomery to present to the Government for their favorable consideration the extreme hardship! in the Road Boards in the Akaroa CouTnty ■having to pay compensation out of T their fundsf or land necessarily required for roads, inconsequence of incompleteness of oitiginal survey; such compensation absorbing a large percentage of the money really required for n»a.kiug roads and constructing
I bridges ; and also to point out that a large [ area of the county which has been alien- ! ated for a period extending over thirty .years, is still without the means of profitable communication, and a consequent loss to the common wealth of the country." Mr S. Nutt attended with a view to get some shingle or broken metal placed on tho road near his property. To be seen to. - ---.' Resolved, that Messrs Blanchard and Mclntyre's account be paid, and their services dispensed with. That tenders be invited for forming four miles of road from Peraki Saddle to Lake Forsyth. Forming 120 chains in Okute Valley. For breaking 300 yards of metal at Rabbit Island, and for building two bridges in Western Valley.
