The opening day of the Metropolitan meeting proved to Jbe a very successful gathering, was excellent. J&armg the morning thdro were a .fajjiK&Hght showers, but by np|)n there wa£ ipJie sunshine, with a deliciously cool' breeze. Besides the usual shorts and amusements in vogue on these occasions', there "was on the ground a .menagerie ,tent containing a real live lion, two. young , " bears,"a mbngoose, and a specimen of the cheetah or hunting leopard.
