To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.

Sir, —" Ratepayer's" opinion is only one; I, as another, differ, and my reasons are that the sooner Road Boards are abolished the better, as the large sums now expended upon Engineers, Foreman of Works, and other servants that these bodies employ would help to keep the roads, in repair; besides, it seems such an anomalyto have two public bodies with equal rating, and almost the same administrative power, and I am certain the bulk of the ratepayers are of my opinion that one rating body is sufficient. But this evil will correct itself; it is already foreshadowed by the impecunious Okain's Road Board, whose next appeal will be for the County Council to take the district under their charge. I do not wish to retrospect the wasteful expenditure of Road Boards ; at the same time they have no right to employ the working man (who " Ratepayer" is lamenting cannot get his honestly earned money) without they have a reasonable prospect of paying him. ' - But perhaps "Ratepayer" knows of another £140 mistake in his district, and if he can get a few hundred pounds from the County Council, accounts can be squared amicably. Yours, &c,

ANOTHER RATEPAYER.
