PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Saturday, the 6th instant. ! - Present—All the members. , ... Mr Budua, who had, since Mr Gillespie's resignation, held the office of Chairman, pro tern, tendered his resignation of that office. • Proposed by Mr McKay and seconded by Mr Pitcaithly, that Mr Budua's resignation of the chair be accepted. Carried. Proposod by. Mr Pitcaithly and seconded by {Mr McKay,, that Mr Hay be elected chairman. Carried. ' ; Mr Hay accepted the office on condition that Mr BUdua held the chair to the close of that meeting. . Proposed by Mr Budua and seconded by Mr McKay, that the Board be divided into District Committees as follows :— Messrs McKay and Budua to undertake the supervision of the district extending upwards from the Pigeon Bay Beach to the head of the valley on either side.

Messrs Hay and Mclntosh the west and east sides of Pigeon Bay, including Holmes' Bay. Mr Pitcaithly, Kay's Gully and the Mclntosh Bay District. Carried. The members of District Committees were authorised to order any necessary work involving an expenditure not exceeding £2 j subject to the control of the Chairman. No work involving a heavier expenditure to be ordered without the sanction of the Board. The following correspondence was read '. — From Mr Fenton, C.E., reporting on the length of the alternative lines of road laid out by him from Holmes' Bay to Wild Cattle Hill, viz.:—Length of road surveyed at first, 3 miles 64 chains 23 linke;. length of line just completed from above the Plantation to the Beach, 2 miles 64 chains 78 links. The latter being shorter than the former by 73 chains 45 links. From the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, stating that rinlesa this Board's half-share of Pigeon Bay Summit Road contract was paid into' the Bank of'Netf Zealand, Akaroa, either to the credit of that Board, or of a joint account, on or before the 4th pros.; , the said-contract would be cancelled. : - - -' 'i ' Proposed by Mr McKay and "seconded by Mr Mclntosh, that Messrs Hay and Budua be appointed a deputation to wait upon the Akaroa and Walriui Koad Board with a view to making some satisfactory arrangements in-the matter on Saturday, the 13th instant.. The Clerk was directed to write to: Mr Fenton, informing him that a dispute had arisen between the Board and Messrs Coatsworth and Holloway, respecting the peg marking th« end of their contract on the M'lntosh and Bays road, said peg being designated in the specification as No. 38; that the contractors had promised to abide by Mr Fenton's decision in the matter, and to complete the work within three months from that" date, likewise reqaesting him to inspect the ground as early as possible with a view to deciding which of the two pegs nlentionedbylthe contractors is the right one. . .•■•"•:•.. ; .- : Also, to the County Council, requesting them to inform this Board whether they were prepared to grant & subsidy of £ for £ on any amounts subscribed in this district towards the erection of jetties, or any other necessary: public, work. Or, if not prepared to grant £ for £, would they kindly state what they were prepared to grant. Mr McHale had an interview,- with the Bbard, and undertook' to dear the Mclntosh Bay Hummock's road of certain landslips for the sum of £20.
