QUARTERLY LICENSING MEETING.
The quarterly meeting of the Licensing Commissioners for the Akaroa district was held in the Court House last Tuesday. The Commissioners present were —J. Aylmer, A. C. Knight, and H. H. Fenton, Esqs. There were no applications for either fresh licenses or renewals. The only business before the Bench was the question of screens for the bars of hotels with doora opening out to public streets.
Sergeant Willis reported that the instructions of the Bench had been satisfactorily carried out in this matter with the exception of Waeckerle's Hotel and the Criterion Hotel. The proprietors of these hotels, were allowed till the 9th inst. to provide satisfactory screens, and in the event of their failing to do so the license to be cancelled. Mr Adams, as licensee of the Criterion Hotel, explained to the Bench that the necessary fittings were on the way from Dunedin.
