ORIGINAL POETRY.

+ THE FAIRIES OP THE MOON. Out in the light Of moonbeams bright, Far from the haunts of men, - Through sweet fine grove We merrily rove, Then away o'er the hill and fen, On gossamer wing, *" To seek a spring, Where the waters rise, clear and cool, And fern leaves grow, And lilies blow By the side, and in every pool. And then we flit To broad fern tip, ■"» And merrily rock to and fro, Laughing to see The imagery Of ourselves in the pool below. • * 'Tis here we hatch Some new love-match, And talk of the youthful pair, Who soon shall find, In each other's mind, A something that banishes care. > Then away we float In lily-leaf boat, To some lovely inhabited spot, Where moonbeams smile As they rest awhile "*" On the roof of a mourner's cot. We enter there, And drive despair Far away into shadow and gloom, For we flit about Till we lure them out 'Neath the light of the peaceful moon, ■# To the rippling stream That soothes, and they dream Of some distant far-off shore ; At last we beguile From their faces a smile, Then away we fly once more. To dance and to glide On some dingle side, By the noisy waterfalls, And gambol about, A" merry rout, Till the voice of duty calls. Thus in the light Of moonbeams bright We dance, work, play, and sing, But, at break of day, *■ Away, and away, We speed on gossamer wing. Thalia. August 1, 1879.
