THE proprietors of this journal, recognizing the fact that stagnation means retrogression, and with a view of meriting a still further amount of that support which has been so liberally bestowed on it, have determined on adding considerably to the amount of literary matter furnished to their readers. On and after the 1.7 th JANUARY, 1879, The Akaroa Mail Will contain, ONCE A WEEK, a TWO-PAGE SUPPLEMENT, Consisting of an additional FOURTEEN COLUMNS Of entertaining matter, under the following headings :— THE NOVELIST. Under this head will appear two well written TALES, one continuous, and the other complete. THE GATHERER, A series of interesting selections. AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL,. SCIENTIFIC, THE TRAVELLER, LADIES' COLUMN, POETRY, and MISCELLANEOUS. Many of our subscribers and friends have complained that, outside local news, there was but little matter in the columns of the Mail, and with the limited space at our disposal, this was to a great extent inevitable, By publishing a supplement, however, exclusively devoted to literary matter, we hope to make the Mail a first-class FAMILY NEWSPAPER. Notwithstanding the additional expense incurred, the Terms of Subscription will remain as before, viz.:— Per quarter, in advance ... 0 6 0 „ „ booked ... 0 7 0 „ Annum... ... ... 1 1 0 We rely on our subscribers and friends to use their best efforts to procure fresh subscribers in return for our endeavors to make the Mail as attractive as possible to all classes of readers.
