Tallow : There was a fair att'Vti-'iance of the trade with spirited 1... Ii: and even prices as follows, viz.: i.7*bt clean, well saved, Ifd to 2d per lb. ; t-ecov.d quality, to Ijfd per lb. ; inferior and heated, -4d to i.jti per lb. Hides : We cvii report tbe sale privately of 400 salted ox hides at 3d per lb. The present week's hides and c:df okins remain unsold. . Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. report : — on the Live Stock market for the week ending Friday, August 1, as follows:— 3915 sheep, 3G9 head of cattle, and four -pigs wy.re sunt forward to the Addington Yards for tho week's supply, and as regards mutton, and beef some of ihe. be.st quality was penned that we have noticed for many months' past. For good qualit}' there was tolerably keen competition,'and sale-* for such ciass were easily made, but it was very difficult to quit inferior mutton at anything like f:-ur values. We would strongly recommend fanners and graziers to give as much attention to 'the drafting and elay.ih.if of their stock as they., can.; fur unless the trade enn rely jipen lines being of even quality; they operate" with the greatest caution, and twenty or thirty inferior sheep often spoil the value of a line. We quote mutton at from 2£d to 2|d per'lb, and.good quality' beef at 27s 6d per IOOIbs ; interior do, 25s per IOOIbs. Store cattle are difficult to quit at any price, consequent on the season and the scarcity of, money, and we look forward to no improvement in prices for this class of stock till further on to the spring. There is a fair.eiH'jtii;y for good conditioned 4-tooth cros'v-brVd 'wethers for grazing purposes, as udt a.--for cros.-brsd ewes in lamb;. :he latter arc-difficult to obtain in anythingjike'iarg'Vni'mbcn?, and we expect in t-jep-ten:b--i- t ■-:■ .sl'.c gond ewes, with lambs at foot, hrinir very hUrh prices, and fat lambs •a oi-.r will be ueuror than we have known ik: v. for many years past. From i:ifonn;.'-.t''jU we are aware: th.it there are
not as many ewes in lamb in the Province this year by upwards of 100,000 as there were last, and we shall be very much surprised if die mortality is not greater than usual. ,
