Mr Finlayson, many years secretary of the Melbourne and Hobson's Bay United Railway Company, has been shot dead by an employee in.the Traffic Department. The motive for the deed is unknown. Hie British then advanced on Ulundi, which was burnt, with all the military kraals. •July 24. In an official despatch from' Sir Garnet Wolseley of July 6th he aiinounees : that he believes the.war is over, and; that he is awaiting instructions to send home the troops., He expects to meet Cetewayo on the 18th July to discuss the conditions of peace. July 25. The'debate on.the second reading of the Irish University Bill in- the House of Commons, Jast night, was adjourned. It is believed that a dissolution of Parliament is'imminent. July 26, .
